Moving House Tips
Move day approaching? Read our helpful moving house tips.
Here are some moving house tips to ensure your removal is as stress free as possible.
Moving House tip No 1.
Get organised in advance. Do not leave things to the last minute.
Moving House tip No 2.
Parking (Brighton and Hove area) – Please be sure to pre-arrange a space if it is likely to be difficult for our vans to park outside your property. He-Van requires parking spaces for loading and unloading. For our extra-long wheelbase sprinter panel van we require 9 meters of space, 9.5 meters of space for our long wheelbase Luton van and 12 meters for our large extended drop-well luton van. If you can secure parking spaces as close to the front of your property as possible, that will save you time and money. You can do this via Brighton council at least 7 days (strictly) in advance of your move date at a cost of £30 per suspended permit bay space which is 5.5 meters. They also add an admin fee of £15 on to the booking as of December 2021! All you need to do is telephone their parking information centre on 01273 294790 to arrange. You may need to be patient as the lines can be busy.
Moving House tip No 3.
Packing and Loading – Please make sure that all your belongings are packed to a suitable standard before our arrival. If you don’t like packing, we provide a packing service. He-Van can provide you with all the packing materials you require including boxes and wardrobe boxes. Wrapping paper, bubble wrap and tape are provided at competitive rates. Our professional packing and unpacking service is £20 per hour per man plus vat, with a minimum 4-hour booking plus materials. Please read our comprehensive He-Van packing tips, if you are unsure on how to pack to a suitable standard and prepare for your move.
Moving House tip No 4.
Ease of Loading – He-Van usually load your larger items first including sofas, tables, wardrobes, and white goods so they need to be accessible, and hallways, stairwells, doorways and footpaths need to be clear for our arrival. Boxes, where possible, should be stacked in one area, so that our movers can select what they need as they need it. Fragile boxes should be stacked separately.
Moving House tip No 5.
Avoiding Breakages – Any fragile or delicate items should be marked as such and packed securely. He-Van provide removal blankets and straps to protect your belongings and we always take the greatest care. If you are not utilising He-Van’s packing service and you opt to do it yourself, ensure you use smaller book boxes for heavy, fragile and delicate items and use larger boxes for bedding, clothing and bulky pans and kitchen equipment. Packing this way will greatly reduce the risk of breakages. Use bubble wrap and wrapping paper to ensure items and boxes are padded out appropriately. You can phone us if you are unsure, and we can guide you on what to do.
Moving House tip No 6.
Think about Storage – It may be the case that you can’t move your belongings into your new home as planned and you may need a temporary storage solution. He-Van offer affordable, accessible storage in Brighton and Worthing, can also guide you on self-storage centres.
